Tani, my younger sister has stopped to go to school from last few days. She is a student of class ten. Before this incident, last two weeks she was depressed and absent minded. Last night I asked her reasons for not going to school. She was wordless for a while, internally I was becoming exasperated, suddenly she started to cry and the story she told me made my heart twisted. I was trying to articulate her each moment of mental torture as she told me the unscrupulous story of harassment in her everyday way to and back from school. It made me scared, unprepared, and highly disrespectful towards societal system. I was ashamed to talk with her any more, thinking that we as partner of society simply failed to make the way to school secure for our girls and sisters.
Eve-teasing is the most pronounced word and most burning problem in our country for now. It turns into a social problem and are costing very high and simply a result of our moral bankruptcy. Eve-teasing is now a name of curse and appears as a nightmare for parents.
The heart breaking news of Eve-teasing that prompt our girls to end their life before knowing more about this beautiful world and hypocritical comments of authority on the issue both are common in our everyday life. The Government and other social partners are giving exciting comments but results are highly depressing. Every day promises of toughest measures against teaser are coming but implementation is very rare.
Nothing are changing at all, dropout from school, unscrupulous harassment, rate of suicide still on increase. Physical and mental harassment in way to and back from school and other educational institutions don't decreased any more.
There is no doubt that eve-teasing should be stopped immediately but doubt in the process of stopping it. Time is running out and the cost is increasing day by day. But still question is what to do to stop eve-teasing? We see our government has taken several measures to stop eve-teasing, and this is also clear that those steps are not working properly. I think behind failure of our measures lies in our approach, the approach by which we are trying to fix the problem.
But it does not mean that we need an immediate paradigm shift or our current approach is wrong. Instead we should consider third way also. We know solution lies in problem and to solve a problem we should work at its root. In the words of Thoreau, “for every thousand hacking at the leaves of evil, there is no striking at the root". But in case of solving eve-teasing we are hacking at the leaves of problem instead of root. We can only achieve quantum improvement as we quit hacking at leaves of eve-teasing and start to work at root.
To stop eve-teasing a youth lead approach should be adopted incorporating with some other steps, firstly, youth engagement in anti-eve-teasing movement should be institutionalize, secondly, empowering women with proper equipment to enable them to take their own responsibility. The major defect of current approach is portraying girls as less competent and inadequate to handle problem. This is not different than the societal thinking about women. Still we think women are less competent and dependent on men for their meat and means.
Psychological empowerment of women/girls is very important because this is the root cause behind eve-teasing. This is the right time; our girls should take their own responsibility and be bold and should know that, the secret is to change how you see yourself. Let’s not waste the little time left, let’s dry your tears and protest instead of cry. Besides we should equip our girls with proper steps to handle their own problem.
Government and educational institutions should adopt proper and effective strategy to train girls. In here mental/psychological empowerment is very crucial. Especially in families parents should not make their girls frighten instead they should motivate them be confident and bold. Eve-teasing is not really a technical problem it is a psychological one. Social dogmatism, moral bankruptcy, educational inadequacies are some mediators’ to this problem. Stopping eve-teasing should be two way process consisting with pull and push. Firstly, girls should be empowered and legal authority should leave their drowsy mood in enactment of laws harshly. Beside proper education and moral basis should be ensured for all. Educational institutions must ensure that they really educate their students both degree and morally.
This problem will be solved when our girls will be able to clap teaser loudly without fear instead of suicide, when they take the way of protesting instead of crying, when our girls try to live their own and respect themselves and their power against societal framework of dogmatism.

There is no shortcut way to solve a problem, it is like farming, you must follow a system and ultimately reap that you show. So we should grasp the process instead of shortcut way.
